Seek - By Jason Silver

Spiritual Wanderings

Seek, by Jason Silver

Over the last number of years, I've written songs to describe my spiritual travels. Sometimes they were sweated out and other times they just poured onto the page, with no effort on my part at all.

About the Songs

  1. Loving Like You Do - When I wrote this song, my hope was to create a song that was easy for a church congregation to learn the first time they heard it. The melody is very simple and repetitive, but the chords underneath it change the context of the melody so that it seems more interesting than it otherwise would.
  2. That's Why - This was written in 1991, when I moved to Saskatoon. I was living with the Wriston family at the time. I try to address the paradox that "he who tries to save his life, loses it, but he who loses his life for God, gains it!"
  3. Community of Grace - I worked at a church in Hamilton between 2000 and 2008. Their motto was to become a 'Community of Grace,' and I wrote this to be a type of theme song to reflect our shared values. Ironically, the church did not share grace with me and my family, and I was pressured to the point where I submitted my resignation.
  4. Hope Has Taken Me - This song was inspired by a conversation with a couple of friends; we were pondering the nature of time, and how a moment can be a life time, and how could maybe can see every moment in one glance.
  5. Faithful One - There have been a few occasions in my life when I have been reminded of how faithful God is to me. I have actually written to songs on this subject, the first while I was in college, and this one after moving from New Jersey is 1999.
  6. Mercy Gate
  7. Since My Saviour Came
  8. Purpose of My Life - Perhaps you've heard of, or even read Rick Warren's book called "The Purpose Driven Life." Yes, it has been a bit of a commercial success, and it has its share of naysayers. Nevertheless, I really appreciated the daily readings, and felt life trying to communicate some of the book's ideas through this song.
  9. Walk This Path - I like to think of life as a journey-- with mountains of challenge to climb, valleys of difficulty to transcend. Such a journey is more manageable with a guide, especially a guide who knows the way. I like that metaphor quite well, and though this song doesn't really do it justice, it does hint at the big picture of life as a journey.
  10. Why Do I Fall - I wrote this song back in about 1993. You can really hear the Chicago and Michael W. Smith influence in the chord progressions.

For The Curious

They've appeared in projects I've done in the past, but nothing that was released publically on the Internet, so I decided to make them available to my listeners, in case anyone out there is curious about spiritual things.

Take what you can from them-- hopefully they mean something to you on your own journey.

Thanks!

Jason
