    Notes:

    Avory (Avery?) married Margaret Reed and they had four children - Sophronie, Alexander, Theodore and Victoria.



    Avory became blind while quite young and died of a heart atack a few years later. His wife, Margaret, remained on the farm which was run the her son Theodore, for a few more years and later moved to Latimer. She suffered a par
    alletic stroke and was confined to a wheelchair for several years before she died. She was buried in the Wilmur cemetery.

    In the Quarterly Session Minutes of the early Waterloo (Cataraqui) Circuit, Methodist Church, it is apparent that Ira played a prominent role in the development of the church, along with his son Jacob, his brother-in law Zachari
    ah David, and his nephew Isaac Powley (son of Jacob).



    Notes taken from "Pioneer Life on the Bay of Quinte": 'He was a staunch member and earnest exhorter of the Methodist Church and one of the pioneer leaders of Methodism in Eastern Ontario. He came from Massachusetts to Canada in
    1808 and three years later married Mary Powley with whom he lived for more than fifty years until his death.' In the 1851 Census, they were living in Storrington Twp, Frontenac Co, with two sons, Abraham and Joseph. A notice app

    His son Avery (referred to above as Abraham) made application to the Ontario Surrogate Court for estate administration.

    Notes:

    Darlings originally came from the province of Hess in Germany, members went to England, became soldiers and were sent to America during the rebellion of the colonies against England. When the war ended they stayed in America as
    British Subjects and then came to Canada, and were given land grants as United Empire Loyalists.



    The Darling homestead was at the head of Loughborough Lake. A home was built and the family lived on the farm while the father continued his Army service. Life was very rugged, and the father walked home from Kingston every two
    weeks bringing supplies, sometimes carrying a hundred-pound sack of flour. He would cut wood and make sure the family was comfortable until he next returned. They had a cow, dog and some hens, these all had to be housed at ni
    ghts as there were many wolves. Eight boys and two girls were born at the homestead, all married and went their separate ways.



    Two of the sons, Avory and Charles, bought adjoining farms at Buck Lake.
