Psalm 55 (6:50)

by Jason Silver (played 42 times)

Give ear to my prayer, O God;
Do not hide yourself from me.
Attend to me, and answer me;
I am troubled in my complaint.

I'm distraught by the enemy's noise,
The clamour of the wicked.
For they bring trouble on me,
And cherish their angry thoughts.

My heart is in anguish in me,
The terrors of death rain down.
Fear and trembling come on me,
And horror overwhelms.

“O that I had wings like a dove!
“I'd fly away, be at rest;
“Truly, I would flee far away;
“I'd lodge in the wilderness;

Selah Rest, and think on that

“I'd hurry to find a place that is safe from the raging storm.”

Confuse them lord, and their speech,
For I see strife in the city.
Day and night they go all around it
And are upon its walls.

Sin and trouble within; ruin in its midst;
Oppression and fraud.
They do not depart from its streets,
Do not leave the market-place.

It is not enemies who taunt me—
I could bear that, I could bear that;
It's not a foe who hates me—
I could hide from them.
But it is you, my equal,
My companion, you're my close friend,
With whom I kept pleasant company;
We walked in the house of God.

Let death come upon them all;
Let them go down alive to Sheol;
For evil is in their homes,
And evil is in their hearts.

But I call upon God, he will save me.
Evening, morning, noon.
I utter complaint and I moan,
And he will hear my voice.

He'll redeem me unharmed
From the battle I wage,
For many come.
God, enthroned long ago He hears, humbles them;
Since they do not fear God.

My companion attacked a friend
He broke a promise with me
Smooth words, but a heart set on war;
His words in fact were swords.

Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you;
He will never permit the righteous to be moved.
But you, O God, will cast them down to the lowest pit;
The bloodthirsty and treacherous shall not live out even half their days.
But I will trust in you.
