Are We Dictator Primed?

I have just read a profound summary of an article on the demise of Venezuela from wealthy oil nation (petrostate trying to evenly distribute the wealth) to broken dictatorship. Reading it felt too much like reading a history of Canada's late days. This needs to be a wake-up call for us as a society. We must stop thinking of the government as an eternal fountain of hand-outs. Since the early days of free land offered to would-be settlers, Canada has set the tone for gimme-gimme-ness among it's inhabitants.
